Anyone who watched the Oscars in 2022 is fully aware of the “slap that was heard around the world” where Will Smith walked on stage and physically smacked Chris Rock for making a joke that he didn’t like. First and foremost this exposed our society where black on black violence occurs everyday and nobody did anything about it. It also exposed our society where actors and actresses are privileged. Will Smith literally interrupted a live television broadcast to smack Chris Rock because he didn’t like the content of the joke and he wasn’t escorted out of the event by security, he wasn’t thrown in jail, and he was even called on stage to receive an award. The sickening part was when Denzel Washington, Bradley Cooper and Tyler Perry showed support for Will Smith. He was the aggressor and quite honestly should be prosecuted for assault. Nobody showed support for Chris Rock. In previous years the Oscars were ridiculed for the lack of recognition for black actors and actresses and then this happens and the man still receives an award. It completely understandable why the Oscars ratings are abysmal. Nobody wants to watch a bunch of pampered and privileged people pat themselves on the back for doing their jobs and then preach to the world.
